What better place to kick off Summer than the Ocean! In our Junior class we looked at all different kind of fish studied their shapes and colors and discovered a great way to paint a fish is to use a circle and a triangle.

These three to five year old artists mastered it! They really enjoyed painting all different colors of fish and did so great using nice brush stokes and painting so many fish with their circles and triangles.

I have to tell you my favorite story from this adorable group of little ones. While studying the fish pictures we learned a few facts about them. We looked at a beautiful red fan fish and commented on how this fish looked like she was wearing a gorgeous red ballgown and was ready for a party. Then we talked about why the fan fish has such a long pretty tail: it curls it's self up inside it's tail to hide from predators. Once we started painting, a sweet little girl on the back row painted a really great red fan fish, she did such a great job, I was impressed that I could tell exactly what it was. A moment later, as I glanced at her painting she was swirling her brush with black paint from the outside in towards the center covering the entire fan fish...she told me the fish was hiding in her tail from the predators. She obviously had been listening, and although her pretty little fan fish had disappeared completely her creativity was far more impressive.
Sometimes there is more to the art than what meets the eye!
